The Southern Regional AHEC Family Medicine Residency has been a Faculty Development Fellowship site since the 1980s, originally in conjunction with Duke; independently since 2011. Fellows spend one year in an immersive experience embedded in a thriving Family Medicine Residency program. You will learn through one-on-one supervision, hands-on teaching in both outpatient and inpatient settings, and focused reading and discussions. You will design and implement both a research project and a curriculum project.

By the end of the fellowship, you will have gained the skills necessary for a successful academic career. You will learn the theory of teaching family medicine, how to teach in various clinical settings, how to become an excellent lecturer and small-group teacher, and how to become an effective mentor.

Application Process

Applications are due no later than March 31. Fellowship usually begins on July 1st of that year. Please send a letter of interest and three letters of recommendation to Dr. Vicky Hardy, Faculty Development Fellowship Director. Candidates will be notified of the offer for an onsite interview no later than April 15.
